Choosing a chemical peel: a quick guide

By The Academy Clinic

Chemical peels are one of the most versatile tools in modern skincare — but with so many options, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. Here's a quick way to think about it.

Mild AHA peels (such as glycolic or lactic acid) are great for dull, dehydrated skin. They gently exfoliate the surface, boost radiance and improve product penetration. Minimal downtime.

Mild BHA peels (salicylic acid) suit oily and acne-prone skin. BHA is oil-soluble, so it penetrates pores and helps clear congestion. Also minimal downtime.

Medium retinol peels improve fine lines, pigmentation and overall skin quality. Expect light peeling over 3–5 days.

Strong TCA anti-ageing peels target more advanced concerns — pigmentation, deeper lines, sun damage. Downtime is longer and aftercare is essential.

Whichever peel you choose, the most important step is a consultation with one of our practitioners. Skin type, history and goals all influence the best choice — and we'll tailor a protocol that delivers results safely.
