Dermal filler aftercare matters. A few simple steps in the first 24 to 72 hours can meaningfully improve your final result and reduce the chance of bruising and swelling.
For the first 24 hours, avoid touching, rubbing or applying make-up to the treated area. Sleep on your back if possible, and keep your head slightly elevated.
For the first 48 hours, avoid heat-based activity — saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and very hot showers. These can increase swelling. Also avoid strenuous exercise.
For the first week, avoid alcohol where possible (it worsens bruising), and skip dental treatment, facials and other injectable treatments. Stay well hydrated.
Swelling typically peaks in the first 24–72 hours and settles within a week. Lips can hold onto swelling slightly longer. The final, settled result usually appears around four weeks after treatment — which is why we ask patients to wait before judging their outcome.
